Freelance Senior Solution Architect

Introduction

I am looking for an experienced freelance senior solution architect for a large national organization. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall architecture and roadmap of a digitization project for a specific group of field employees.

Organization

A large organization where IT services are provided centrally to tens of thousands of employees. You’ll be working within a platform organization responsible for the digital workplace and the tools that support employees on a daily basis—such as workplace services, identity and access management, collaboration platforms, mobile workstations, and the underlying infrastructure.
You’ll operate across clusters and be part of a virtual architecture team. Business, operations, and technology are closely intertwined—you’ll collaborate closely with product teams, architects, vendors, and business stakeholders.

Job Information

As a Senior Solution Architect, you’ll align business objectives, operational processes, and technology into a cohesive transformation initiative. You’ll translate strategic goals into concrete architectural deliverables, roadmaps, and actionable initiatives.

Work includes, among other things:

• Developing and maintaining the integrated target architecture
• Developing a roadmap and transition plan for phased implementation
• Ensuring alignment between business processes, user experience, applications, IAM, workplace facilities, infrastructure, and security
• Advising management, product teams, and stakeholders on architectural choices, dependencies, risks, and priorities
• Actively contribute to architecture governance and alignment with enterprise and domain architecture

At the end of the project, there will be a widely supported architectural vision, including a roadmap and a feasible transition plan.

Job Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience as a Solution Architect in large-scale digital transformation or modernization projects
• Experience in developing target architectures, architecture roadmaps, and transition plans
• Experience working within large organizations with complex IT landscapes (5,000+ workstations)
• Experience with hybrid IT environments (on-premises, private, and public cloud—Azure required, AWS preferred)
• Experience with workplace services, digital workplaces, and end-user services
• Experience with Identity & Access Management (IAM) and/or role-based access control (RBAC)
• Experience with architectural challenges related to applications, infrastructure, security, and integrations
• Knowledge of architecture methodologies and models such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, and BPMN
• Experience in drafting and reviewing Solution Outlines, PSAs, and high- and low-level designs
• Experience with Agile, DevOps, and preferably SAFe
• Experience with information security and standards frameworks such as BIO, NIS2, or similar
• Excellent command of the Dutch language

Offer

• Start: August 3, 2026
• End Date: December 31, 2026, with an option to extend
• 36 hours per week
• Hybrid work: office in Utrecht and home office (occasional work at other locations)
