Freelance Product Owner – Process Standardization & Digitization

Introduction

I am looking for a senior freelance Product Owner with a technical background for a service provider with multiple locations in the Netherlands. You will be responsible for leading an organization-wide operational transformation. You will set the direction, make the decisions, and implement the changes yourself.

Organization

The organization is working to digitize, standardize, and automate its operational processes. At present, the standard procedure is primarily used. Exceptions are handled differently at each location.

The next step is to establish a single, uniform way of working across all locations, with room for local variations where necessary. The systems must be aligned with this approach. Several improvement initiatives are underway simultaneously, while day-to-day operations continue as usual.

You will work closely with the business, the locations, internal IT teams, architects, and external vendors. You will report to senior management.

Job Information

You are the owner of the roadmap and responsible for the results. You set priorities, ensure that the initiatives align with one another, and report on progress, decisions, and risks. You frequently visit the sites to gather insights into current issues and, together with IT, translate those insights into working solutions. You provide direction, but you also write process descriptions and user stories yourself when necessary.

Core Responsibilities:

• Managing the Roadmap and Backlog: Vision, Priorities, MVPs, and Release Planning
• Develop a standard procedure for all locations, including guidelines for local exceptions
• Facilitate workshops with end users and translate the results into user stories and functional requirements
• Manage and critically evaluate IT teams, architects, and vendors
• Implementing new processes and systems in phases, from pilot to nationwide rollout
• Managing Based on KPIs and Data
• Report to management and the steering committee on progress, budget, risks, and results

Result of the assignment:

• An established, widely adopted standard operating procedure for all locations
• A prioritized roadmap with specific releases
• An initial rollout, launched and measurable via KPIs
• Insight for management into progress, budget, and risks

Job Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience as a Product Owner, with ownership of the roadmap and backlog
• Experience with digital platforms, application development, and system integration
• Technical background, such as a developer, architect, or data analyst
• Demonstrable experience in standardizing processes across multiple locations or organizational units
• Experience with phased implementations and getting users on board
• Experience reporting to senior management or a steering committee, including on budgets and risks
• Experience with Scrum and/or SAFe
• College or university-level thinking skills, preferably in a technical or computer science field
