Freelance Senior Network Engineer

Introduction

We are looking for a senior network engineer with extensive experience in Cisco ACI for a large organization in Utrecht. You will manage and develop a complex data center and enterprise network environment and ensure that it remains stable and performs well.

Organization

The client is a nationwide organization with its own IT department and an extensive, business-critical infrastructure. Availability and continuity are top priorities, and changes are implemented in a controlled and well-documented manner.

You’ll be joining an infrastructure team that combines management and ongoing development. The team follows ITIL and, where appropriate, Agile, and works closely with other IT disciplines. Your colleagues will give you the freedom to contribute your own insights. You’ll also be expected to share your knowledge.

Job Information

You are responsible for managing part of the network infrastructure, with a focus on the data center environment running on Cisco ACI. You handle incidents, but you also look ahead: you plan lifecycle activities, contribute ideas regarding architectural changes, and implement them. You carry out changes that have a significant impact outside of business hours.

Core Responsibilities:

• Installing, Configuring, and Managing Network Components (Nexus, NX-OS, IOS-XE)
• Lifecycle management: planning and implementing upgrades, maintenance, and replacement
• Contribute ideas regarding the design and modifications to the network architecture, and implement them
• Network Security: Developing Specifications, Implementing Measures, and Promoting Security Awareness Within the Team
• Analyze and resolve incidents, and translate them into structural improvements
• Reporting on network performance and documenting changes, including impact analyses

Result of the assignment:

• A network that has been delivered and documented in accordance with the specifications
• Up-to-date lifecycle planning with status reporting
• An updated, validated network architecture and a network security plan
• Knowledge that is permanently embedded in the team

Job Requirements

• HBO-level work and thinking skills
• CCNP Enterprise, supplemented by CCNP Data Center or the Cisco ACI concentration
• At least 3 years of experience with network design and operations in large enterprise environments
• At least 2 years of recent experience with routing and switching
• At least 5 years of recent experience with data center solutions, including migrations from legacy environments to Cisco ACI
• Multiple brownfield ACI deployments in which you played a leading role, for example as a lead engineer or solution architect
• Thorough knowledge of BGP, OSPF, and HSRP/VRRP
• Willing to participate in scheduled on-call and standby shifts
