Freelance Lead, Infrastructure Migration

Introduction

We are looking for a senior infrastructure specialist for a public organization. As an independent professional, you will oversee the technical migration of a business-critical application platform to a new hosting provider, from technical design through go-live to handover.

Organization

The client manages information systems that are mission-critical for several affiliated organizations. Availability, security, and a controlled transition are therefore top priorities.

The new hosting service provider has already been selected and contracted. Next comes the technical implementation. You will be working closely with the internal management team, the architecture team, the security team, and the external hosting provider.

This is a well-defined, results-driven assignment. You decide for yourself how to achieve the agreed-upon results, within the parameters of architecture, security, and the contract. It is not a fixed position within the organizational hierarchy.

Job Information

You are technically responsible for the entire migration process. You design the target environment and set it up in collaboration with the hosting provider. You build the platform, automate processes where possible, and migrate the components in a controlled manner. The project is divided into several phases, some of which may overlap.

Core Responsibilities:

• Develop and finalize a technical design for the new hosting environment
• Develop and implement a procedure for collaboration between the client and the hosting provider
• Build the underlying infrastructure and set up the application stack on top of it
• Establishing connections with the necessary infrastructure and security measures
• Automating Deployment and Management with IaC, Configuration Management, and CI/CD
• Testing and validation, and resolving or accepting findings
• Preparing for and Performing the Migration
• Handle documentation and handover for the management organization and the hosting provider

Result of the assignment:

• A working, tested application stack in the new hosting environment
• Automated deployment and management processes
• A successful migration without uncontrolled disruptions
• A management organization and hosting provider that can take over the platform independently

Job Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience designing, building, and migrating complex infrastructures in enterprise environments
• At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing hosting, cloud, or hybrid platforms
• At least 5 years of experience with Linux and container platforms, including Kubernetes
• Experience with VMware (or similar), network and web components, IaC, configuration management, and CI/CD
• Has recently completed at least two complex migrations of business-critical applications to a new hosting, cloud, or hybrid environment
• Has recently served at least once as a technical coordinator or held final responsibility in such a project
• Excellent command of spoken and written Dutch

Pros

• Experience managing or collaborating with external vendors, hosting providers, and managed service providers

Offer

• Start: early January 2027
• Term: just over a year, with an option to extend
• Hours: an average of about 30 hours per week, up to 36
• Location: hybrid
