Introduction

We are looking for an experienced interim finance director to set up a new Business Control & Data department for an investor-driven service provider. You will transform finance into the organization’s steering function: looking ahead, driving decisions, and ensuring they are carried out.

Organization

You’ll be joining a medium-sized, nationwide business services organization that serves both public and private clients. The organization is in the midst of a strategic restructuring. Its revenue model is shifting from transactional to recurring revenue, and data sources are being consolidated onto a single central data platform.

The financial administration is in order. What’s missing is management information that allows the executive team to plan for the future, and the follow-up actions that must result from it. Finance is therefore being reorganized. Accounting and Treasury already have their own managers. Business Control and Data will be merged into a single new department, and you will be responsible for building it.

You’ll work at the management team level, report to senior management, and collaborate closely with the CIO, the commercial director, and Operations. The reporting lines are short, and you’ll be given a great deal of autonomy.

Job Information

You have ultimate responsibility for financial management and for the shift from reporting to forecasting. You combine strategic work at the executive level with hands-on development of models, KPIs, and team structure.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Translate the strategic plan into a multi-year financial outlook, using scenarios as the basis for executive decisions
  • Calculate the transition to recurring revenue (price, retention, mix, cash) and work with Sales to build a profit model for each proposition
  • Develop a validated cost and pricing model that provides margin insights by business unit, customer, and service
  • Redesign the planning and control cycle (budget, forecast, monthly reporting) and implement a driver-based rolling forecast
  • Define a single set of KPIs with the business units and link them to dashboards for the board, management, and executive leadership
  • Revise board and shareholder reports so that they are clear and immediately usable for decision-making
  • Work with the CIO to implement the multi-year data roadmap on a Microsoft data platform, including data governance
  • Build an in-house Data & AI team and deploy the first predictive models (such as risk and churn) into production
  • Developing business cases for data, IT, and investment decisions (TCO, ROI, CAPEX/OPEX, go/no-go decisions)
  • Provide insight into cost drivers, benchmark staffing levels, and take ownership of the Finance & Data risk register (audits, ISAE, GDPR)
  • Define the structure, roles, and staffing of the department, and recruit controllers and data specialists

Result of the assignment:

  • Management uses forward-looking information on a monthly basis
  • The margin per business unit, customer, and service is known and is used in decision-making
  • The shift toward recurring revenue has been financially substantiated and implemented
  • The Business Control & Data department, with one business partner per unit and a dedicated data team,

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in finance, business economics, or accounting
  • Proven experience in a leadership role in business control, FP&A, or finance transformation
  • Experience in a private equity or investor-driven environment (board packs, value creation, cash)
  • You have built and led a finance or control department yourself
  • Experience with buy-and-build, integrations, or restructurings
  • You build reports yourself in Power BI and have knowledge of modern data platforms
  • You can hold your own both in the boardroom and on the shop floor, and you're not afraid to call people out on their commitments

Pros

  • RC or MBA
  • Experience with recurring-revenue models
  • Experience in business services or a BPO environment
  • Experience in deploying predictive analytics or AI applications

Offer

  • Start: as soon as possible
  • Duration: 6–12 months, with the option to extend (interim-to-perm is negotiable)
  • 32–40 hours per week
  • Hybrid Work
  • Details: A management-level role with broad authority; you will build a new department from the ground up
