Freelance Project Manager for AFAS Reimplementation

Introduction

We are seeking an experienced project manager for a healthcare organization in the southern Netherlands to lead the complete reimplementation of AFAS on the client side. You will manage the project and serve as a strategic partner to management regarding how processes will be structured within the new AFAS landscape.

Organization

The organization has been using AFAS for years. Over that time, the system has evolved step by step, and some parts of it no longer align with current work practices. That is why the organization has decided to reimplement the system: not a technical upgrade, but a fresh start in which processes and system design are reevaluated.

The selection process for an implementation partner is still underway and is expected to be completed around the turn of the year. The partner will provide its own project manager. You will serve as the internal counterpart who safeguards the organization’s interests, prepares internal decisions, and ensures that the organization is ready for the new structure.

During the project, there will be a change freeze on the current AFAS environment. This makes planning, coordination, and clear communication especially important.

Job Information

You are the client-side point of contact for everything related to the reimplementation. You manage the schedule, scope, and decision-making, and you ensure that substantive decisions are well-founded. You must not only know how to set something up, but also why. You explain these decisions to stakeholders—from management to administrative staff—and you get them on board.

Core Responsibilities:

• Client-Side Project Management: Action Plan, Scheduling, Risks, Progress, and Reporting
• Collaborating with the implementation partner's project manager
• Prepare internal decisions regarding processes and organizational structure and finalize them through the decision-making process
• Discussing process design and the setup of AFAS with management
• Stakeholder management for management, administration, HR, finance, and other user groups
• Monitoring the change freeze and the transition from the old to the new structure
• Supporting testing, acceptance, implementation, and adoption

Result of the assignment:

• An AFAS environment that has been redesigned to align with current processes
• Decisions made and documented regarding processes and structure
• A controlled go-live with minimal disruption to daily operations
• An organization that can manage and further develop the new structure on its own

Job Requirements

• Proven experience as a project manager in ERP or HR/finance implementations, preferably on the client side
• Experience with AFAS implementations or reimplementations
• Strong in process thinking: you translate work processes into design choices and vice versa
• You can explain and sell your decisions to stakeholders at various levels
• Experience managing external implementation partners
• Excellent command of the Dutch language

Offer

• Start: November/December 2026; an earlier start is also possible
• Duration: at least 12 months, with the possibility of extension
• Hours: 32–36 hours per week
• Method: hybrid, approximately 50/50
