Introduction

We are looking for an interim director for a medium-sized service provider to build out business control into the organization’s key management function. You will establish a new department, shift the finance function from a backward-looking to a forward-looking approach, and ensure that insights lead to decisions and follow-through.

Organization

The organization is undergoing a period of change. The financial records are in order, but management lacks forward-looking management information and insight into where the profit margin is generated. The revenue model is also changing, and this needs to be supported by financial data.

Job Information

You will establish a new business control and data department and lead it. You will work at the management team level, maintaining close contact with senior management and having significant authority. This is explicitly an executive director role, not a CFO role: the existing finance leadership will remain responsible for accounting.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Redesigning the planning and control cycle, with a driver-based forecast and scenarios
  • Develop a cost and pricing model that provides margin insights by business unit, customer, and service
  • Calculating the Financial Impact of the Change in the Revenue Model
  • Establish a single set of KPIs with the business units and recalibrate reporting to management and shareholders
  • Designing the department's structure and recruiting controllers and data specialists

Job Requirements

  • A master's degree in finance, business economics, or accounting
  • Experience as a manager of a business control or FP&A department that you have built from the ground up or significantly transformed
  • Demonstrable experience with cost, pricing, or margin models that have led to business decisions
  • You're not afraid to hold people accountable for their commitments, at any level
  • You feel at ease in the boardroom and on the shop floor

Pros

  • RC or MBA
  • Experience in an investor-driven environment
  • Experience with subscription or other recurring revenue models
  • Experience in the business services sector

Offer

  • Start: as soon as possible
  • Duration: 6–12 months, with the option to extend (interim-to-perm is negotiable)
  • 32–40 hours per week
  • Hybrid Work
